Legionalla Risk Assessments

Water Tank Clean and Disinfection

Water Tank Clean and Disinfection

Under general Health and Safety law, Approved Code of Practice (ACoP) L8, you must consider the risks from Legionella that could affect your employees or members of the public, and take suitable precautions.

Our Risk Assessments include :

  • Legionella Risk assessment of site water systems
  • Asset register of all outlets
  • Site specific log book and monitoring regime for controlling the risks
  • Schematics
  • Remedial action list
  • Appoint a person to be responsible
  • Allocation of responsabilities
  • System Identification
  • Individual water system surveys
  • Executive summary

Water Tank Clean and Disinfection

We use the latest and highest quality products to treat and disinfect the water tank and including hot and cold water systems through to outlets.

EndoSan Silver peroxide  is an eco-friendly, multi-component, oxidising biocide.  A highly effective sanitising solution is formed utilising a stable combination of Hydrogen Peroxide and Silver ions.  This combination is so effective that it creates a biocide 20 times more powerful than that of hydrogen peroxide.  Other benefits include:-

  • It is odourless
  • It will not alter the taste, smell or colour of food
  • It is effective in water temperatures ranging from 0 to 95°C
  • No neutralisation is required after disinfection
  • It is biodegradable

Monitoring

Water Tank Clean and Disinfection

TMV Servicing and Fitting

  • Weekly flushing of little used outlets
  • Monthly temperature test results of representative outlets
  • Quarterly descaling of shower heads and spray taps
  • 6 monthly bacteria sampling of water storage tanks
  • 6 monthly water storage tank inspection
  • Annual inspection of calorifiers
  • 24 monthly legionella risk assessment review
  • A Water Hygiene Consultant will visit the site at regular intervals to ensure that risks are kept under control
  • Temperatures and conditions will be compared with parameters detailed in ACOP L8

TMV Servicing and Fitting

TMV Servicing and Fitting

TMV or Thermostatic Mixer Valve is a device that is designed to control water temperature for showers, baths and outlets. These devices require servicing on a regular bases in order for them to function correctly. We offer servicing and installation of both type 2 and type 3 TMV's. To comply with Legionella prevention guidance; water must be stored at no less than 60 degrees and distributed at no less than 50 degrees, however where the risk of scalding has been identified . TMV's are fitted to regulate the temperature at the outlets.

Water Sampling

Here at Pure Clear Water we offer bacteria sampling using a high performance hand held ATP meter. It is designed for the rapid testing and detection of contamination in water and on surfaces caused by unwanted bacteria, allergens and food residue.

Our hand held ATP meter is designed using state-of-the-art electronics making it simple and easy to use. It offers incredible sensitivity, much improved functionality and excellent value for money and is ideal for use in any application where the rapid detection of contamination in water or on surfaces is critical. We can also offer a comprehensive suite of laboratory tests including UKAS-accredited legionella analysis, sampling and water quality tests for landlords, building owners and operators, facilities managers, duty holders and the responsible person. Which would give you a comprehensive result of exactly what is or isn't n your water system.

Calorifier Blowdowns

An inspection for scale and sediment in the cistern must be carried out on an annual basis or where the water quality seems to be cloudy. The sedimentation, scale etc. will settle down in the calorifiers and will provide an environment for Legionella growth, therefore the cleaning and disinfection of this storage vessel must be carried out. If there is no inspection hatch available, the system must be flushed thoroughly on regular intervals to avoid the formation of scale and debris in the base of the storage vessel.

For calorifiers with no access hatch a sample of drain water should be taken for bacteria sampling and its condition noted.

Remedial Actions

Shower Head Descaling and Disinfection

Shower Head Descaling and Disinfection

  • Removal of dead-legs (redundant pipework or water service) or other unwanted water services
  • Installing/replacing ball valves
  • Fitting new tank lids
  • Installation or replacement of stopcocks, isolation valves, double check valves etc.
  • Installing insect and rodent screens on cold water storage tanks
  • Reconfiguration of pipe work within a cold water storage tank system
  • Insulating water storage tanks and associated pipe work
  • Installation of digital temperature sensors on calorifiers
  • Replace or install water filter cartridges for drinking fountains, coffee machines and vending machines

Shower Head Descaling and Disinfection

Shower Head Descaling and Disinfection

Shower Head Descaling and Disinfection

Shower head descaling and disinfection is required on a quarterly basis and is important to keeping your water system free from bacteria and scale. Which would not only help shower heads last longer and function better, but also alleviate the risk of contracting bacteria though the air born water droplets which is the most common way of contracting water born diseases.

  • Quarterly descaling of shower heads and spray taps
  • Temperatures and conditions will be compared with parameters detailed in ACOP L8.

Schematics

Schematics

Schematic drawings form an integral part of any comprehensive legionella risk management programme and are a specific requirement of the Health & Safety Executive’s procedures dealing with the control of legionella bacteria in water systems.  Schematic drawings of water systems are intended to be easy to read without specialised training or experience and should incorporate the important components that make-up an engineered water system, but leave out those elements that are considered to be irrelevant.
